This month, I measured my plastic footprint using the Health Earth Network calculator. The result showed that I use about 7.9 kg of plastic per year, which is much lower than the global average of 50 kg. This was encouraging, but I also realized that I still rely on disposable items more than I should. Most of my plastic use comes from disposable food containers (4/month) and drink cups (5/month), as well as straws and utensils. To reduce this, I started using my own tumbler at cafés and plan to carry a reusable cutlery set. I also noticed that I use 2 plastic bottles and 4 plastic bags each month, so I bring an eco-bag when shopping and want to switch to a reusable water bottle. In the bathroom, my usage is smaller but regular, such as shampoo bottles, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. Over time, these add up, so I want to try eco-friendly options like bamboo toothbrushes or refill containers.
Overall, the test helped me understand that my footprint is low compared to many others, but I can still improve. Small changes, like reducing disposables and choosing sustainable products, will make my lifestyle more environmentally friendly.
